Red Dead Redemption 2 not likely to appear at E3

CEO of Take-Two Interactive, Strauss Zelnick, sat down with gaming industry specialists MCV for an interview following their earnings call yesterday. Much of the interview is business and financial related, as expected, however there’s a little tidbit regarding the much anticipated E3 Expo, the annual gaming convention, coming up in June:

“It will be an interesting year for us,” he said. “We’re not really showing products. We have a corporate presence at E3, and we’re excited to be there.

Ever since the announcement of Red Dead Redemption 2 and subsequent 6 month silence from Rockstar Games, we’ve been talking at length on our forums about whether there will be an appearance from the game at this year’s E3 Expo held in Los Angeles. Yes yes we know, “Rockstar don’t do E3”, however there were a lot of indicators that they actually would allow Sony to present something on their stage this year, since the two companies have a marketing partnership for exclusive content when the game releases.

On first read, this quote from Take-Two pretty much tells us that Red Dead Redemption 2 will not be appearing, especially when you couple it with the fact the game has just been officially delayed. Take-Two will be in attendance for business purposes only, as they always are, but the chances for anything else now seem pretty slim.

Ever the optimist in us however, we will be tuning in to all of the conferences over the duration of E3, just in case there are any surprises in store that we don’t yet know about.
