“GTA: Land Of The Free”

Play Magazine (UK) have published a four-page article containing rumours, speculation and a fake map plus details of how they believe GTA4 will look.

They’ve named it “GTA: Land Of The Free”, which basically consists of ten major US cities, including those featured in previous GTA titles. Ten cities seems a bit far fetched in my opinion, but they do a nice roundup of all the latest rumours and talk in-depth about the development side of things and what Rockstar would be capable of.

Rumour #1: GTA London

No doubt off the back of the 1999 expansion pack to the PSOne GTA, many are assuming that Rockstar will turn its attention to the Big Smoke. Sounds like a rumour based on flimsy logic to us, especially with Sony’s The Getaway.

Rumour #2: GTA PS3 Released in 2006
Optimistic at best. The idea that the next-gen GTA will essentially be a launch title for the European PS3 release is ridiculous. Rockstar will want everyone to have a PS3 before it releases GTA.

Rumour #3: GTA will be PS3 exclusive
Almost definitely, and there will be an exclusitivity deal as there was with PS2. Plus, as the next GTA is almost certain to require an HD disc format, it’s likely that Rockstar will opt for Blu-Ray. As 360 doesn’t have HD-DVD. Ha.

Rumour #4: GTA Neo Tokyo
Whilst not impossible, the notiuon of a futuristic spin on a city like Tokyo sounds too distant from the GTA style. Sure, it’s exciting, it’d look stunning, but you can’t poke fun at your own fiction.

Rumour #5: GTA Online
As the Cell chip has been built with online in mind “from the ground up”, that Liberty City Stories had decent Wi-F gameplay, and that PC versions of GTA have enabled online modding, the next-gen GTA will surely have online components.
