Snap Saturday: 8 Years of GTA V

Welcome to Snap Saturday, GTANet’s ode to the virtual photography community who continue to capture some amazingly creative shots across GTA and Red Dead.

Grand Theft Auto V reached its 8th anniversary yesterday! From the first teaser in 2011, to the marketing period (and information droughts!) in 2012, to its absolutely explosive release in September 2013, that even brought good chunks of the Internet down, here we are celebrating its 8th anniversary. Hype grew and grew for two whole years after the reveal of the first trailer, and the community couldn’t wait anymore for release day.

Today, we’re focusing on the OG’s of the whole experience. The wacky residents of Los Santos, the gangs, the random events all around, player caused mayhem, locations in and outside San Andreas, and the Story Mode’s characters and protagonists – Michael, Franklin and Trevor. We also couldn’t miss out on including some of the landscapes of Los Santos and beyond, and including some classic Snapmatics from way back!

As always, snaps are handpicked from the GTAForums, Twitter and Social Club communities. Enjoy.

Classic Snaps!

Ahhh, the good old awesome times of people finding out new features in the game, asking around the forums and the internet how do you obtain certain clothes, how do you get to certain locations, and what did they need to unlock to do the same things that people took Snapmatics of. The discovery period after a new Rockstar release is always extremely exciting to witness and even experience myself.

Starting here, we look back at some of the first snaps posted around Twitter and GTAForums. Unfortunately, the Social Club Snapmatic section for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions is down now, so we can’t salvage some of those pictures. Times when the Snapmatic app forced a filter on everything! Just like old Instagram I suppose! Hope you enjoy this small selection.

Hope you enjoyed this selection of Story Mode-focused shots, and some classic shots from way back in 2013. Next week we’ll be back to our normal schedule, so you can post your photos on GTAForums or use the #GTAOnline / #RedDeadOnline / #RedDeadRedemption2 hashtags on Twitter and you might see your efforts highlighted in future GTANet Snap Saturdays!
